Company Description

Our client is a private equity-backed label manufacturer generating nearly $1 billion in annual sales, with more than 30 manufacturing facilities across its network. With an established presence in the labels and packaging industry, the company serves a diverse customer base and supports customers through its extensive manufacturing capabilities. For its Northern Utah operation, the company needed an experienced sales professional who could maintain key customer relationships, transition established accounts, and contribute to continued business growth.

Job Title

Sales Representative

How long was client searching prior to our involvement?

The client had been searching for several weeks before partnering with Delta Diversified (DDI) to identify qualified candidates. Despite its established internal recruiting resources and active job postings, the company had not yet found the right individual to meet its needs. Finding an experienced sales representative in the labels and packaging industry required more than identifying someone with a strong sales background. The ideal candidate needed relevant industry knowledge, the professionalism to represent an established manufacturer, and the relationship-building skills necessary to transition into an existing book of business.

Did client have internal recruiting resources?

Yes. The company had an internal recruiting team and active job advertisements supporting its hiring efforts. However, traditional recruiting methods were not producing the right match for this specialized sales position. DDI supplemented the client's internal recruiting efforts with a targeted search approach, leveraging industry relationships and a specialized understanding of the talent market to connect the company with a qualified sales professional who aligned with its business and customer relationship needs.

Why was this a real problem for the client?

The client needed to replace a senior sales representative who was preparing for retirement. This was more than a standard sales hire: the company needed someone capable of taking over established customer accounts, preserving valuable relationships, and maintaining continuity throughout the transition. The ideal candidate also needed to bring industry expertise, professional credibility, and the ability to build trust with customers from day one.

In the labels and packaging industry, successful sales professionals must understand their customers’ businesses, communicate effectively with key decision-makers, and develop relationships that support long-term account retention and revenue growth. Finding someone with this combination of technical industry knowledge, established relationship-building skills, and sales experience proved challenging. DDI helped the client look beyond traditional applicant pools to identify a professional whose background and approach aligned with the demands of the position.

How did this opportunity help the candidate?

The successful candidate had spent nearly 10 years with his previous employer, building a substantial foundation of professional experience and industry relationships. Over time, however, the organization had undergone leadership changes and begun moving in a different strategic direction. The candidate recognized that the business was no longer what it had once been and became open to an opportunity that better aligned with his professional priorities.

DDI connected him with a sales leader he already knew and respected from an earlier stage of his career in a related industry. Their existing professional relationship helped establish immediate trust, and the conversations quickly revealed a strong mutual fit. The opportunity offered the candidate a chance to work with a familiar leader, apply his industry experience in a new environment, and pursue a fresh professional direction.

In a particularly telling sign of his interest, the candidate was willing to accept lower compensation to make the move work. His decision demonstrated that career satisfaction, leadership alignment, and confidence in the opportunity could outweigh compensation alone. For the client, this meant gaining an experienced sales professional who was genuinely motivated to join the organization and take ownership of important customer relationships.
