Job Title

Business Development Manager

How long was client searching prior to our involvement?

The client was searching for 2 months prior to reaching out to Dan.

Did client have internal recruiting resources?

Yes, they utilized online job advertisements and have an internal recruitment team.

Why was this a real problem for the client?

The client had experienced significant growth within the territory and recognized that a single Business Development Manager was no longer able to effectively support the market’s demands. As customer activity increased and new opportunities continued to emerge, the territory was not receiving the level of coverage necessary to maximize revenue potential, maintain strong customer relationships, and capitalize on new business opportunities.

The existing team was stretched thin, making it difficult to proactively engage prospective clients while also providing adequate support to existing accounts. Leadership understood that without additional business development resources, there was a risk of missed opportunities, longer sales cycles, and competitors gaining market share in key accounts. To sustain their growth trajectory and improve overall market penetration, they needed to add a second BDM who could increase customer touchpoints, strengthen relationships, and drive business development efforts across the territory.

Because the role would directly impact revenue generation and long-term growth objectives, finding the right candidate was a high priority. The company needed someone with strong relationship-building skills, industry knowledge, and the ability to quickly establish credibility with customers while contributing to the ongoing expansion of the business.

How did this opportunity help the candidate?

The candidate had been successful within his current organization and had developed valuable industry experience, but over time he began to notice a cultural shift within the company. Changes in leadership priorities, organizational structure, and overall business direction created an environment that no longer aligned with what he valued professionally. As a result, his engagement and long-term enthusiasm for the organization began to decline.

At the same time, he had developed a strong interest in exploring opportunities outside of his current industry. While he appreciated the experience he had gained, he felt that transitioning into a new market would provide fresh challenges, additional learning opportunities, and a broader foundation for long-term career growth. He was eager to leverage his business development and relationship management skills in a different environment while expanding his professional expertise.

This opportunity presented the ideal combination of both objectives. It allowed him to join an organization whose culture, leadership philosophy, and growth strategy more closely matched his own professional values. Additionally, the role offered the opportunity to successfully transition into a new industry while still utilizing the core sales and business development skills that had driven his success throughout his career. The move enabled him to reinvigorate his career, gain exposure to a new market segment, and position himself for continued professional growth in an organization where he felt more aligned with the company's vision and future direction.
