Why was this a real problem for the client?
This branch office has changed over the years from a more mature staff to a largely young and immature staff. The incumbent manager was a capable operations leader, but didn’t have a particular strength in the mentoring and training functions that became a necessity for success with a team that had changed its core demographic makeup. This is a highly technical industry, so the client also needed candidates who were coming out of a relatively small pool of direct competitors in the local market.
How did this opportunity help the candidate?
The placed candidate is a very hand-on leader who thrived in operations management roles with teams that needed close day-to-day contact and field training & development. Ironically, the company that this leader was with previously was going the other direction and needed an operations leader that was a more strategic P&L driver. This was a very logical transition that allowed the candidate to thrive in his technical area of strength, while being surrounded by a team that really needed the leadership and training that he was most passionate about delivering.
